Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) 96% lean ground beef
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons whole wheat breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Onion Soup Sauce
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water
Topping
- ⅓ cup reduced-fat mozzarella or Swiss cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a bowl mix
ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce. - Form 16 small meatballs and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake 15–18 minutes until cooked through.
- Meanwhile heat olive oil in a pan and cook sliced onions 10–12 minutes until soft and golden.
- Add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce and simmer 5 minutes.
- Stir in the cornstarch mixture to slightly thicken the sauce.
- Add baked meatballs to the pan, sprinkle cheese on top and cover 2–3 minutes until melted.
