Let me show you how to make my favorite easy Thanksgiving side: candied sweet potatoes! They’re soft, buttery, extra saucy, caramelized, and sweet. I especially love this Thanksgiving side dish because you can prepare the elements of this recipe ahead of time AND purchase the ingredients in advance, too.
Ingredients
- 5 medium sweet potatoes (about 3 lbs), peeled and sliced into ½-inch rounds
- 2 tablespoons light butter (or 1 tablespoon regular butter)
- 2 tablespoons sugar-free maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar substitute (such as Swerve Brown)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Arrange the sliced sweet potatoes in a baking dish.
- In a small saucepan, melt the light butter. Stir in the sugar-free maple syrup, brown sugar substitute, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, vanilla, salt, and water until combined.
- Pour the mixture over the sweet potatoes and toss gently to coat.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil, stir the potatoes, and bake for another 20–25 minutes, until the sweet potatoes are tender and the glaze is thick and glossy.
- Serve warm.
