Southern 4-Ingredient Cheese Straws

These Southern 4-Ingredient Cheese Straws are the absolute definition of a classic family favorite that disappears in seconds.

They offer an incredible, buttery snap that melts directly on your tongue, followed by a surprisingly warm kick of spice.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • ½ cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (or more, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the cheddar cheese, self-rising flour, Greek yogurt, and cayenne pepper until a soft dough forms.
  4. Roll the dough into thin ropes or pipe it through a cookie press.
  5. Cut into 3-inch pieces and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  7. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
