Hearty Amish Beef and Potato Bake

This Old-Fashioned Amish Beef and Potato Casserole is pure comfort on a plate. Tender ground beef is combined with a 
 creamy
 sauce and layered with thinly sliced potatoes, then finished with melted sharp cheddar. Hearty, cozy, and simple, it’s the perfect dish for a family dinner.

Ingredients

For the Beef Mixture:

85% lean ground beef2 lbs
Medium yellow onion, diced1 (about 1 cup)
Large garlic cloves, minced3
Condensed cream of mushroom  soup1 (10.5 oz) can
Whole milk1 cup
Kosher salt1 tsp
Freshly cracked black pepper½ tsp
Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp

For the Potato Layers:

Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled & thinly sliced4 cups (2–3 large)
Shredded extra sharp yellow cheddar  cheese1 ½ cups

For Cooking & Garnish:

Olive oil1 tbsp
Fresh parsley, chopped2 tbsp

🔥 Instructions

Step 1: Sauté Aromatics & Brown the Beef
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and garlic, sautéing for 2 minutes until fragrant. Add the ground beef and cook 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until no pink remains. Drain any excess fat.

Step 2: Combine & Layer in Slow Cooker
Transfer the beef mixture to a 6-quart slow cooker. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Layer half of the thinly sliced potatoes over the beef, slightly overlapping. Repeat with the remaining beef and potato layers

Step 3: Slow Cook
Cover and cook on Low for 6–7 hours, until the potatoes are tender

Step 4: Add Cheese & Finish
During the last 30 minutes of cooking, sprinkle shredded cheddar evenly on top. Cover again and cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 5: Serve
Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy this hearty, comforting casserole.
